
The Prisons is the third arm of the Criminal Justice System after the Police and Courts. The Nigerian Prisons Service is under the supervision and control of the The Ministry of the Interior and the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services' Board.

The Research and Publications Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service is saddled with the responsibility of, among other things, publishing magazines and periodicals for the enlightenment of not just the Prisons community but all who may find information on prisons useful.
